It's a story of a girl who visits her elderly relatives on the sparsely inhabited English coast. Her boredom is replaced by adventure when she discovers a plea for help written in dust in an unused part of the coastal watch house/5(8). The Watch House is the first of Robert Westall's ghostly novels for young adults (in the back of the book he says "I always wanted to write a ghost story").
